Credentials/issues that could disqualify you during Akwapoly Screening (ND & HND)
The following credentials are vital if you must pass the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic (Akwapoly) screening. These credentials include: O’level, certificate of origin, birth certificate, Jamb result, ND result and Letter of Completion of 1 industrial attachment (for HND only).
If a candidate does not have any of these documents complete, or is faulty, getting pass the screening for admission will be difficult if it will even be possible.
The credentials or documentation issues that can cause a candidate to be disqualified or rejected during admission screening are mainly those that show the candidate does not meet the published entry requirements or whose results cannot be verified.
From the published ND screening requirements, and as a former student of the institution, I found out that AKWAPOLY stipulate that an ND candidate must have at least five O’level credits in relevant subjects, obtained in not more than two sittings, meet the required UTME score, and be at least 16 by the specified date.
Now let me break it down for you, just follow closely…
Credentials/issues that could disqualify you
- Less than five O’level credits
Having fewer than five required credits in WAEC, NECO or an accepted equivalent can make you ineligible. For example: as a candidate applying for SLT Department, you must have credit in English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and any other relevant subjects such as Agricultural sciences, Economic, CRK, Mathematics etc.
Note that: Mathematics is not a must for SLT candidates, but it is a must for Engineering students.
- More than two O’level sittings
If the required five credits are obtained across three or more sittings, this does not meet the stated ND requirement.
This means that you can combine two O’level result eg. WAEC & NECO, WAEC & WAEC, WAEC & NABTEB. But if you don’t get the relevant subject as listed in number one above in the first or second year of sitting, then you will not be accepted.
- Missing required subjects
It is not enough to have five credits; they must include the relevant subjects for your chosen course. For example, a candidate for an engineering-related programme would need to satisfy the relevant science/mathematics requirements. - Unverifiable WAEC/NECO result
AKWAPOLY requires candidates to provide a valid scratch-card PIN for verification of WAEC/NECO results and to upload their O’level result to JAMB and the Polytechnic portal. A result that cannot be verified could therefore cause a problem at screening.
What this means is that you should keep your scratch card safe because it may be required in some cases but not all the time.
- Mismatch between your documents
Differences in name, date of birth, examination number, JAMB registration number or other important details between your O’level certificate/result, JAMB documents and application can raise verification issues. This is especially important where the discrepancy makes it impossible to establish that the credentials belong to the candidate. - Fake, altered or fraudulent credentials
Any WAEC/NECO result, JAMB document or other credential that is discovered to be falsified or altered can lead to rejection and potentially further consequences.

- Invalid or missing JAMB result/slip
The Polytechnic specifically lists the JAMB slip showing the candidate’s photograph and JAMB online result among the documents required for screening. - Not meeting the UTME requirement
For the 2026/2027 ND screening, AKWAPOLY required at least 120 UTME before you can be given admission, it you have less than that, then you may not be considered for admission and may be disqualify during the screening exercise. - Choosing the Polytechnic incorrectly in JAMB
The latest ND notice required AKWAPOLY to be the candidate’s first choice. A candidate whose JAMB choice does not satisfy the particular admission notice could be considered ineligible.
I have found out that over the years, AKWAPOLY prioritize first choice candidate, So, if you really want to get admission this year in Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, then you must choose Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic as First Choice.
If you are applying for HND
The requirements are different. AKWAPOLY’s 2026/2027 HND notice requires, among other things, an ND in the relevant course from an NBTE-accredited institution, generally at Lower Credit or above. Candidates with a Pass may be considered where they have the required two years of post-ND industrial work experience. Candidates must also have satisfied the ND entry requirements and completed the required industrial experience.
This implies that, if you didn’t do your ND in AKWAPOLY, then to be admitted of further your HND in Akwapoly, you ND result or certificate must be from an accredited institution. To check if your Institution is accredited check here
So, for HND screening, problems such as an ND from a non-accredited programme, wrong/incompatible ND course, insufficient grade without the required work experience, or inability to provide the official ND transcript/statement of result and industrial attachment evidence can cause difficulty.
Before going for the Screening ensure that you confirm that your institution has NBTE-Accreditation. You must also have a Distinction or Lower credit in your ND result, but if you have pass, it means that you have to stay at home for at least two years.
More importantly, you must go for the screening with your IT Letter (Industrial Attachment letter), showing that you have completed one-year industrial work experience. Check here for the acceptable format for IT letter according to the school management.
You should also go for the screening with your ND result, N/B AKWAPOLY do not accept awaiting ND results. So, ensure to go with your ND result so as not to be disappointed.
